My son James and I enjoyed a nice overnight hike to little Pete lake. The place was jammed with hikers and campers so we ended up finding a small little camping spot on the east end of the lake, by the stream in-flow. This was my first hike this year and I was dog-tired. Pretty out of shape, LOL. The guide book says 4.5 miles but my GPS put it at 5.5 to get to that end of the lake.
Too tired to fish in the evening (we hiked in around 4pm), I fished in the morning. Little fish were dimpling the surface but it was hard to get my presentation to them. The lake has very shallow shorelines and the deeper water would require wading, which I wasn't prepared to do. So no fish this day, but just the same it was another nice father-son camping trip which is more important to me.
Did have a couple weird things happen on the hike out. First, a kid, maybe 14-15? comes up the trail and asks if it was much farther. We were almost back so I told him "about 4 miles" to which he replies "I want to go farther". Off he went in his shorts and tee shirt, tennis shoes, and no water. Who's kid is this anyway??? Then after that, two people approach on horseback. We stand off to the side to let them pass. Lady in front says "That's good, they've never seen hikers before and think you are predators. Here, would you feed them these treats?". Ummmm, no, that's OK". I'll let someone else be the guinea pig, those teeth looked pretty big. Maybe the kid up the trail...
