Fished at the canal in West Ewing Park, behind the SPU track(Queen Anne side). After reading recent and past reports, I've been frequenting this location in the hopes of landing my first fish in Seattle. I'm a newbie so I threw just about everything I had in my tackle box into the canal to see what worked. Met a guy recently named Pat who was very helpful and even gave me a hook and weight which I'm thankful for, told me that he'd been using a plastic worm texas rigged with success. Tried that for a few hours but didn't seem to work for me. I went back to my rapala lures and even bought a countdown lure at the nearby Big 5 in Ballard.

Today I got lucky and finally caught two smallmouth bass that were bigger than the fingerlings that I've been catching recently. The fish were caught near the shore about 5 ft away on Rapala Countdown(CD5) and Original(F8). I'm new to Seattle so if anyone can give me some idea of places and locations to fish from shore with public parking, it'd be greatly appreciated.

Thus far, I've fished Lake Union only via the ship canal because of the ease in parking. I've also fished parts of Lake Washington such as the piers (T-shaped) and (I-shaped) via Lake Washington Drive close to a bridge.

I'm having fun catching bass but I'm more into Carp as they tend to give a bit more fight. Any recipes and locations would really be helpful.

By the way, fishing the canal can be a bit of a pain, as there are a lot of ships, boats, etc... scurrying by during the weekends. It all seems to die down as evening approaches. I'd recommend this spot if you have a lot of patience.

Try a drop shot rig and live nightcrawler on the hook, it gets hung up alot but it works well there. I went to ewing the past couple weeks on my off days from work and caught plenty smallmouth and rock bass with that setup, even hooked into a couple largemouth, a few bluegill and a perch.

Thanks Freshwater206, I keep hearing that this area is great with dropshots and texas rigs, but I'm really hoping to fish without any live bait. It's just a preference thing. That said, I do have a few senkos and artificial grubs that I'll be trying out next time I'm back at Ewing. Thanks again for the feedback. If I remember correctly though, the nearest shop for worms is probably Big5 over in Ballard right?

I usually buy my bassin' gear online like at tackle warehouse if local usually at angler's choice in lake forest park, big 5 is my trout gear spot lol, for nightcrawlers i get them at fred meyer shoreline or ballard...i posted a report for lake union just now.
