Fished in West Ewing Mini-Park, caught 4 black bass. Two smallmouth and two rock bass, I experienced several missed hits, on a plastic neon green grub jig. I was originally planning to pick up some worms over at Big5 in Ballard and take a trip out to Ronald Bogs but it was late and Big5 was all out of live worms, their entire fridge is empty and there's no word on when they'll restock on live bait.

Temp has been cool lately with some passing rain in the early mornings and afternoon, mostly cloudy today. My previous trip out here was a complete failure. I decided to try smaller hooks on a small jig and try for pan fish like pumpkin seed or other sunfish. Most of my successes were attributed to a very slow retrieve and bright lure(neon colors) and several re-casts once I felt a hit. Fish are about 4 - 5 feet off shore. I had a lot of missed hits, around the end of the SPU track and the neighborhood communal playground. I stopped every few feet to just cast and see what I could manage. A lot of row boats out and what seemed like a team in training hindered me from casting too far out from shore. Overall, a nice way to spend 2 hours in the late afternoon early evening before it got dark. Water seemed still pretty cold so I guess, that's why the fish are reacting to slow retrieve.

I kept reading this 'rip rap' term being used in previous reports, can someone explain what that means?

rip rap = all the rocks and boulders along the shore being used as a 'wave break' so the shore doesn't wash away.

Thanks for the clarification, I wasn't sure what that mean, I thought it was referring to the constant barrage of vessels coming and going along the canal.

Freddy's has a fridge full of crawlers two blocks away... Salmon roe and cured shrimp too but never live shrimp unfortunately.

Thanks, it's always good to know where to get local bait!
