I couldn't let a day go by without at least SOME effort to go fishing. So while making a run down toward south Bellevue, with it not yet being dark, I knew what I had to do.

I had line in water at Larsen at 7:25, and fished until 7:50 when it was dark enough for the crappie to stop biting. And for me not to really be able to see the bobber anyway.

I had been told, and was hoping although it made no sense to me, that I'd have better luck catching bigger crappie toward fall. Back in July/August it was super easy to catch them, as long as you were at the lake from sunrise till 1 hour after, or from 1 hour before sunset until sunset. But they were all tiny. Seven to eight inches was a monster. Most were four to five inches.

Well, there's clearly still no lack of crappie in the lake. In 20 minutes I had 5 or 6 bites, landed 2, both in the 4-5 inch range. They were less aggressive than they were six weeks ago. Zero bobber down - all bites were the bobber slides left/right type of bite.

I really wish there was a good spot to catch crappie that weren't bait sized that didn't require driving to eastern WA. I guess the search will continue!

thanks for the report. Are there specific jig colors that you have found to be more effective than others? Do you tip your jigs with any bait?

Larsen is essentially a peat bog. The water is the color of strong black tea. I always use white jigs. They are superior even to "pearl" or other off-white colors. I dont know what crappie like in other lakes. And no, I only use the jig, nothing else.

As for Cassidy, I've tried that lake twice now and it's a complete waste of time to go there. Unless I happen to be in Marysville, with my raft, and need a place to take a nap, I wont be returning.

Where can you park? At the stores north of the Larsen?
