This was one of those "it doesn't matter if I catch something or not" trips.
My son James and I hiked from Alpental to Snow Lake. Our original plan was to explore Source Lake, which is a tiny pond that is off to your left as you hike the Snow Lake trail. Source Lake is the "source" for the Snoqualmie River. It's where it all starts. So I kinda wanted to see it up close and personal. My resource book says it holds cutthroat trout. When we got to the area I was unable to find an easy way down to the lake, and not wanting to go down the wet tarns we opted to instead hike over to Snow.
I've been to the lake three times now, and am yet to catch a fish. I tossed spinners, small plugs, and wooley buggers. I didn't get a bump, nor did I see one fish rise while I was there. That said, I really didn't care. It was just nice to spend the day with my son, knowing that these days are numbered makes each chance to hike with him that much more special.
BTW, hike this lake on the weekends and just know you will have a lot of people joining you!
