I fished Kress Lake on four occasions (from March 10 to March 17)with a double rig using both powerbait and nightcrawlers. Each trip was in fairly cold weather and only lasted two to three hours in mid-day. Only two bites which resulted in a three year old brood rainbow and a nine inch planter. Only saw one other fish caught and it was a four year old brood fish. These were put in 12/15/98. Although there was not much success the effort was there and a number of people said they would like to catch one of the March plants of CHANNEL CATS! The fish and wildlife folks are going to do more channel cat plantings this spring and they aren't minnows. The fish were from 17.5" to 3 pounds. The water was one degree warmer each day I fished and ranged from 45-48 near the surface. I expect many will try hard for those catfish when the water gets warm. This water gets heavy pressure with each planting of trout and soon slows way down. Please note that this body of water is now !
open for all fishing year round.
