I know, it is redundant, but here goes. Met Pete at Green Lake at 7:00 AM, lines in the water by 7:20... a bit dark, but these fish do have underwater flashlights... don't they? Temp at outset was 57 degrees, wind blowing strong out of the south... white-capped waves hitting the north shoreline, making casting and holding a line, very difficult. Water temp at the shoreline was 58 degrees... recent rains have brought the water temp down, and risen the lake level too. Began fishing with fl. orange Power Eggs, 3' leader on one rig, 4' on the other. Began catching fish right away... hard to tell a fish hit from the wind, but when the rod tip begins that old familiar "Rainbow Boogie Woogie" you just know it! I caught the first, then Pete went on a run... had located his old "hunny hole"... I caught a couple, then it was time to sit back and watch the magician at work... Pete limited by 9:30, took me an hour and a half longer, but we both limited on beautiful Rainbows, mostly the planted Steelhead. I had one at 10", one at 11" and the rest were between 12 1/2" to 13", with one biggie at 14". The wind continued all morning, subsiding for brief periods of time, then gusting even stronger. Fish were biting hot for a while, then nothing for a while, then hot again.
Good number of anglers out today, saw lots of fish being caught. Had a chance to meet Howard of WALakes.com (hhc1482) and tried to share some of my Green Lake "wisdom" with him (don't really have much!). Anyway, was very attentive, asked lots of questions, then was off to chase the elusive Carp... wanted to catch something BIG! Hope he found some. Posted a pic of a 12 1/2" Steelhead that obviously had a run-in with what I assume to have been a Cormorant... large area of scales missing. Seems to me that as I watch the Cormorants fish, they are having much more difficulty catching the Steelhead... too speedy??
May not have Pete with me for a while, as his wife, Cherie, is to undergo another surgery on Friday. Thoughts and prayers with them both!!! Always a joy to fish at Green Lake, whether or not fish are caught... this Fall, so far, it's a little too easy! PTL!

Another trip with limit of trout! Nice! I fished yesterday morning in the rain for about two hours. Got a big fat skunk. No action at all. I was hoping to get my first limit but never materialized. :-/

Hi Stan,

It was a pleasure meeting you. I've spoken to a few anglers here at the lake, but you seem most knowledgeable and obviously you've been very productive. I thank you again for all the tips and advice you had. I unfortunately didn't manage a carp, with the winds this strong, it was really difficult to spot them. I'm a catch & release guy and I know how it stresses trout more than most species when they are hooked so I might not try to target them as much. I'm just glad that I managed to catch one a few days ago. It's really interesting to learn about the techniques and approach people use for certain fish. I'm on a personal mission to catch at least one of each species, so I'm glad to hear about the different possibilities at Green Lake. I didn't know that perch and bullhead catfish were in the lake, so it'll be interesting trying to catch those too. So far, I've managed to catch channel catfish, rainbow trout, and a lot of largemouth bass. Again, it was really nice to meet you. Hope to see you around the lake.

Beautiful catch. Those are some nice looking rainbows. I will have to hit up that lake.. looks way fun. I assume they have extend season like the other recently stock lakes? hhc1482, that is neat how you want to catch and release one of every species. I used to be catch and release back in my hometown of KS but catch and release is almost impossible with bait. Perch are way fun to catch. I know for next year that Pine lake has a lot of Smallmouth bass those are way way fun to catch. I do not know if my tactics from KS work here but I am willing to share any knowledge I have.
