Had promised to take a young man from our church on a fishing expedition and today fit both our schedules. Picked Matt up about 8:30AM and headed for Tye Lake in Monroe. My first visit here, and not knowing what to expect... what was totally unexpected was the terrific winds, gusting to 35 to 40 mph! Arrived at the lake about 9:15...temp a the outset was 43 degrees... water temp at the shoreline was 56 degrees. Matt and I made our way to the west side of the lake, right in the teeth of the blustery and cold wind coming down the slope of the Cascades. Using fl. red Power Eggs on two rigs, was very challenging to see any hits on our lines, which were in constant motion from the wind. After about an hour Matt had a good hit and reeled in a 13" Rainbow... handled himself very well, even though it had been a long time since he had done any fishing. Had a couple of hard hits on both rigs, but no hook-ups... then, about 11:00 Matt reeled in his second fish, another feisty 13" 'er. Shortly after, Matt cried "uncle", the wind had gotten to him... he was freezing... so we left for home. Temp when leaving, was 44 degrees... had risen 1 degree in two hours, in direct sunshine!!! Not a perfect day, but I was pleased that we were able to get Matt a couple of fish and we had a good time together. Under the circumstances, really enjoyed my first expedition to Tye. Saw a few fish landed by other fishermen, but everyone was having a difficult time with the wind. Several small water craft ventured onto the lake while we were there, but they quickly retreated to the safety of the shoreline. Will certainly return on a day that is more conducive to fishing! PTL!
