They put another 8000 fish in Greenlake yesterday, but I found out last evening that every fish I was catching in the dump area was small and dark, so I fished the NE corner (opposite side of lake) this morning hoping for the better, bigger, brighter steelie smolts.

The first couple landed were the dark small ones, so I threw them back, then landed a nice bright steelie. The next two were dark & small, but the barb tore up their gill so I had to keep them. I then pinched the barbs on my rooster tail, Dick Nite & home made jig that I was using.

Caught 2 more on the rooster tail then it stopped spinning properly so I switched to a wee Dick Nite (silver). Very successful w/this but had to play them a lot harder to land them w/out the hook popping off. My home-made jig was the best lure today - as long as my rhythm was going right, I was hooking fish every time they were in the area - and being selective of the ones I wanted.

Got my limit by 10:30 and that was after tossing back 8-10 I didn't want (WAY easier & less collateral damage w/the barbless hooks!).

The lure looks weird because when I was coloring it, I heated it up too much and it started to melt. My theory was that if it looked totally funky that the fish would act like fish and say - "Hey LOOK!! That fish is deformed! LET'S GET HIM!!" It seemed to be the case - the lure was swarmed every time I threw it out - even up to the point that the lead was falling off and the tail was ripped to shreds and not working right.

Dude, I am encouraged by your success. Unfortunately, I think I have a fishing curse upon me again, and may need to exorcise my demons before fish will bite my hooks. Some people use fishing as therapy. I need therapy to recover from my fishing experiences. Fortunately, I can laugh at myself and my process. Good job adapting, and landing another pile of fish.
