I was able to sneak in a fishing trip before the festivities of the day thanks to an understanding spouse who supports my fishing passion. I arrived at about 1120 am. I saw only a few other people fishing. No one seemed to be catching anything or not consistently. The wind was pretty fierce in blasts and I could see dark clouds on the horizon. I knew it would probably not be great fishing and would not last long. I decided to put my first line out of a a bobber with a pink/orange grub tipped with worm. With the wind blowing the line around I thought it might create some action. Then I got ready to bait up my other poll for with PE one orange and one red. Then I turned to see the line with the bobber tighten. fish on! I started bringing it in. It was a very lively trout with lots of sliver. I brought it in just as some people on the trail walked by. Nice fish. Then I fitted that line back up and cast back out. I cast out my other line(PE orange and red) and the crazy wind took it a ways to the right. The wind was just whipping the line like mad. After a little while I went and checked the second line and pretty soon i could tell there was a fish on. I brought up my second fish of the day a littler larger and also very active. It had a nice silver color as well. I put them on the stringer and man those two wanted to get away swimming all over but I was catching fish for Thanksgiving dinner so no catch and release.
The wind continued to blast and rain started and the front really started to move in. After that not a bite. I saw two sets of fisher people leave and then did not seem to be having luck. The wind the rain and no bites and I took off pretty soon after. Left about 130. I only give it a two because compared to how I usually fair it was really slow and I am pretty sure the weather change spooked them or the cormorant fishing. Though it was not having any luck either.
Over all I left happy because I got some fish but I was also pretty soaked. Fun lake really but seems it is finally slowing down or the weather report that said it would be poor fishing today was not far off.
Oh but we did enjoy them as an addition to our dinner for a guest that does not eat turkey. I decide to flay(light pink flesh) em and pan fried them in flour and coconut flakes. They turned out amazing and very tasty. Nothing like cooking them only hours after catching them. I am hoping to smoke some too at some point.
