12/1/2014 6:06:00 PMI've got a few Dick Nite spoons in my tackle box I bought for some reason but have never used them because they're too light to cast. I could put a weight on 18" or so above the lure but that's an awkward mess to cast accurately. I'm wondering how you fish with a Dick Nite spoon.

I've caught my share of salmon on the river, but it was a bleak coho year and I need to put food in my freezer. When Greenlake is 10 minutes away vs. 75 minutes to get to Black Diamond for old, colored chum...which makes more sense?
It may be a fish pond, but I"ve caught over 300 and kept/socked away over 150 fish in my freezer in the past 3 weeks. How about you?

12/1/2014 7:24:00 PMObi-jonKenobi - Dick Nite spoon: Watch this seminar - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJnjT3cpdU0 (part 1 of 4...watch all). Dick Nite is (IMO) the single best and most versatile lure for fishing salmon in the Pacific NW. Trout is a salmonoid fish - so same system applies.

12/1/2014 10:42:00 PMHey Guys, I just want to come clean with the fact that some 3 year olds have been out fishing me on green lake, and lately the 3 year olds and myself have been too wimpy to get out on these cold mornings. Hot chocolate seemed a more appropriate thing to endure. I live vicariously through Seattle Pat ninja trout slayer and friends who seems to know just how to entice and slay these green lake trout! One day I will return, with hopes of better luck. Keep the peace and have fun out there.

If I was having such luck I'd probably be too selfish to report and keep it to myself. It looks like there's lots of room though and good times. Too bad our banner coho year is ending in flood/deep freeze.

I watched the video that you suggested earlier in this section, but did not see anything about how to cast the Dick Nite from shore. I would appreciate any advice on this subject. Thanks

12/2/2014 11:41:00 PMOxmary- I always tie a snap swivel to my main line and then set up all my leaders/lures with a barrel or crane swivel. I then put them on a spool so I can change out my lures in seconds.
My Dick Nite's are set up on a 4-5 foot leader. I'm using 4# Trilene extra strong line - it's more like 5# line but rated at 4. I then use fluorocarbon line for my leader - also 4#. I don't use 2# because you can't hog them out of the water w/out the line breaking. Anyhow, I hook a 3/16 ounce weight on the snap swivel, followed by my barrel swivel (which is attached to the leader). Tie the leader directly to the dick nite without any other swivel.

What about the retrieval? I found some informative articles online that suggested that the fish bite while a spoon is descending. It always seems like the bite comes when pulling in, but maybe that is just when I feel it. I have been experimenting with retrieval speeds, usually with a slow, steady reeling in, but bringing the rod tip up for a second or two, then back down. I also read that it is about one foot of descent per second waited. Of course the added weight can change this. Any comments on the retrieval of a dick nite or Kastmaster?

12/3/2014 8:09:00 PMBTW, lest anyone lament the numbers of fish being caught, Green has been planted with 70,500 rainbows. Seattle Pat has by his numbers taken 150 fish which is .002% of the fish planted. The bonus ten fish limit is good until Feb 13, 2015. These fish are meant to be caught.
