What a day. Went out again with the nine year old neighbor and his mom for some lunch time fishing. Went to "the little store" located at the south west end of the lake just north of Vasa park. Grabbed some worms and took the opportunity to grab a mack's wedding ring all red with a UV hook. Got out there using two deep six divers with two 4/0 dodgers. One with the all red UV hook and the second with an all green, which was hot yesterday for the trout, and produced better today (both lures were wedding rings). We all start fishing around 11:30 and as I pull away from their dock, we have action on the new all red wedding ring. Now, being the "captain" of a 1989 12 foot game fisher, fishing gets exciting fast when my 6'2" self starts jumping around grabbing rods and handing them off to the little boy and his mom. We ended up with a beautiful Kokanee. Just as I release that fish and set the gear back down, another hits very hard. I hand it off to the mom and she starts reeling it up. The nine year old is then leaning over the edge with the net trying to grab the fish. Scary. I quickly sit him back down, and he manages to still net the fish. Another Kokanee, healthy and beautiful. We let him swim off and just as fast as last time, the same rod goes nuts. My turn, and yet another Kokanee. Darn things are really getting annoying by now, but still very fun to reel up and let go. In the course of 10 minutes of fishing, we had 3 hookups and 3 Kokanee. We set the gear back down and keep on the troll for an elusive cutthroat. No more than five minutes later, the green wedding rod gets absolutely hammered. I grab the rod and the nine year old reels up all excited. The fish came close to the surface and I saw it was a monster cutthroat. The nine year old now all excited reels as fast as he can, and almost loses the fish before his mom and I remind him that the fish isn't in the boat yet. We finally land him and she turns out to be about 20 inches. Finally a keeper and the Kokanee skunk is off the boat for the day. The day follows with the mom pulling up a nice cut, than another cut for me, and the nine year old getting yet another monster, nearly the same size. In an hour and a half, we get six cuts in a row, four on the all green and two on the all red, all great healthy fish. At 1:30 we headed back to the dock to warm up and have a little bit to eat, and pick up the little boy's older sister. as we head back out around 2:30-3 or so I missed a couple bites that were soft, thinking they were Kokanee, and lost a monster in the transition from handing off the pole to the daughter. Probably 5 minutes later, we hook into a fish that bit soft, and I thought I missed at first, but then it gave a great yank and the fish was on. This fish was the scariest moment of the day. The daughter reels it up nice and steady, and when the fish gets to the boat, she lifts it out of the water with no net. She is dangling it over the water and I am trying to get her to keep it in the water, and suddenly the fish falls off the hook, but just in time, I get the net under it, and the fish falls into the net. So luckily, we caught that one twice. Another nice cut right around the 20" mark. Just as soon as the line hits the water again, a monster smashed it and doubled the rod right over. I handed it off to the little boy and yet again he pulls up a monster. Just as big as the first fish.

And so concludes the day. One more nice Kokanee on the third rod I set in on the down rigger for the last 10 minutes, and we pulled up and went home. 8 keeper cuts is the best day ever on the water for me. Being not 16 yet, I am always excited to expirament and try new things, but out of all the wedding rings have really done the trick, especially this year. Last year I used needlefish, and didn't catch a single fish trolling the entire year.

I always appreciate feedback and tips.

The west side has been the hot ticket, and there has only been four or five boats out the entire week, so give sammamish a try. It has really been producing well.

Great report and good job getting new people out there and excited to fish. Be careful out there in that little boat. Try not to overload her, four people seems kinda pushing it. The wind can kick up pretty fast too. Keep getting out there and introducing people to the sport, that's awesome, just be careful.

Also make sure that you have the required pfds for each person on board, and that the kids 12 or under are wearing them at all times!

Thanks for all the great comments. Yes, in my boat, everyone wears their life jacket at all times, no matter what the age. Luckily my boat holds over 400 pounds and all of the people in the boat weighed a little over 200. So all safe. There is a boat launch at Vasa park, but I believe you have to pay something like 5 bucks and make sure it's not rented out. The weather buoy is another good spot on the south end so I hear. I have trouble getting down there when I just use my little trolling motor on the back. Thanks again to all of the great comments and i hope to see you all on the water soon.

Hey WAfisherman~ great report and that is a great lake that I really want to hit more this year. You can launch out of the state park and then work that south end where the river comes in- great area too and you could easily make it to the weather buoy from there. Great to see those happy smiling faces!!!

Thanks salmon Barry! I have a 6 horse Chrysler 1976 outboard to put back on the boat. Right now I just use a 45 pound thrust electric which works great for the trolling because it's nice and quiet, but I can't really go places. I am putting the 6 horse back on soon, so I can go places but until then I am stuck wherever I can go and not use up all of my battery. I make the trek which is long to the west side, but I can troll to there. I mostly only catch Kokanee on the way there, but still fun.

Nice job, stay safe that is number one!! Sounds like your having a great time and doing things right and catching some nice fish. Glad to see your taking some younger kids fishing and getting them hooked on fishing.
