Happy new year to all!

Well, today was more than a three, but less than a real solid four, but I rounded up anyway. Fished from 11 -12:15 or so in the morning with the little neighbors father. He likes fishing, he just doesn't get to it often... Well, he hardly ever goes fishing. So he wanted to learn what I was doing out there. It wasn't a good show then. Caught two nice Kokanee and the dad missed a bite or two. After that depressing start, we went back to the dock to grab a bit to eat, and swap the dad for the son. (Everyone was tired after the brilliant firework show we all put on yesterday. anyway, after a quick intermission, the little boy (who now wants to fish every day and do nothing else.. Success!) and I head back out into the water. We started on the west side and trolled across the lake on a diagonal to the east side. Our gear to start with consisted of a deep six diver and a dodger on each pole, and then one all red uv hook wedding ring and an all green wedding ring both tipped with worm. All barbs pinched, because until april 15, they have to be. Within 2 minutes of having gear down there, we were hooked up. It was a soft little bite so we were assuming Kokanee, and sure enough it was. A couple minutes later, we get another hit, and it was another Kokanee. Good start on the second outing, just the wrong fish. We go about an hour without anything so I decide to change gear. The red wedding ring and dodger setup was retired for a Mack's sling blade and Mack's UV imperial spoon in all pink. I learned for fellow Washington Lakes user "G-Man" that spoons are the way to go. So I threw that on and used some pro-cure trophy trout scent on the back. In less than two minutes, we had a fish on. I take it and reel, feeling very little resistance and I pull it up thinking its another Kokanee. It turned out to be a little tiny cutthroat a little over 8 inches or so. When we caught this fish, we had just headed back west. So we knock it and bleed it and get the gesr back down there with some more scent. 5 minutes later the green wedding ring gets hit. I hand the pole to the little boy and we bring up another good sized cut. Yay! The action heated up. I set that lure back up and send it down. All rods were ran between 20 and 45 feet. Just a couple minutes later the spoon gets hit hard. I am teaching the little boy how to fish, so he gets to the pole out of the holder and catch the fish all by himself, so he is very proud of his fish that he caught all on his own. It was a nice rainbow. Not common, but we will take it! Before the fish is even unhooked or anything including taken out of the net, the wedding ring rod gets hammered! My little buddy is desperately trying to get the fish out of the net, while I fight this good fish! It's another monster cutthroat. Again around the 20 inch mark. So, in the span of about 10 minutes we went from no trout to 4 trout. That's how it was all of the other days too. One would hit and then multiple would follow fast thereafter. So when you catch one, get that gear back down there asap! I am assuming these fish are coming from the salt thru lake Washington and the slough to here, but I don't know that for sure. Anyone have an idea?

So that pretty much concludes the day. We missed a monster hit and got one more Kokanee and headed back in at three. Sadly this was the last day to fish until academics have to come back. It was a great break full of many fish and lots of learning for me and my little pal... One more young fisherman to go out and enjoy the fresh air and the thrill of catching a fish.

One last little thing that worked for me during my time so far on the lake was expiramenting. I caught fish on many different colors of wedding ring, hoochies, and spoons. Also used ford fenders, Dodgers, sling blades, deep six divers and down riggers.

If something isn't working, try something else. There are fish out there. You just gotta find what the want.
