Got a late start, didnt get on the water untill about 10:00 am. freaky weather, sunny and 60 degrees. In January? WOW! As the Ol lady and I were launching, another boat pulled up and a guy said "There jumpin everywhere." and sure enough they were. As we headed over towards the mouth of Issaquah creek we were marking fish like crazy. Threw one line in (small chrome flasher with green wedding ring) and before I could get the second line in the water we had one on. About a 10 in bow. Got second line in (small chrome flasher with red wedding ring) using old school leaded line out about 3 colors and trolling about 1.5 to 2.5 MPH. At around 10:30 got second fish, on red wedding ring this time. 11 in. bow. There were several other boats out on lake and from what I could see, it looked like they were catcking fish too. Unfortunatlly the other half started feeling ill so we called it a day, to bad, it seemed like the bite was on. Might try it again next Sat.

Hey tony m, It sounds like you had a nice time out there. I had a really late start at about 1:00pm, and tried the east side with downrigger, deep six, dodger, wedding rings with a worm. No takers. It started getting rough and I needed to return. There were two guys and a young woman that were very enthusiastic about their catch. I did happen to notice that 2 of the 3 fish were Kokanee. These rules are tough to understand, but I do know that Kokanee are not ok to take out of Sammamish. Rainbows under 20" are ok and cutthroat are ok.

I wanted to set the record straight on something I said on Jan 26th. I remember vividly what the trout looked like, and at the time I thought they were Kokanee. I believe after additional consideration that they were actually steelhead, because of the distinctive darker line up the back of the fish. Steelhead and rainbows under 20" are ok to keep in Sammamish. It is interesting to me that hatchery steelhead look so different from wild steelhead. Hatchery rainbows look a bit different also.

If the fish have a clipped adipose fin they are salmon from the issaquah hatchery and should be released as well I believe as they are not actually rainbows but juvenile salmon. There are rainbows in the lake but there have been no plants for many years and the hatchery in issaquah doesn't rear steelhead either as far as I know.
