When i heard that Sprague lake was stocked with steelhead i had to go check it out for myself. i was on the water by 8:30 and had a fish on in 1 minute!!!!! i had my limit by noon. Bigest fish was 17 inches . as for equipment i was using a red and gold wedding ring 16" behind flashers. i was using leaded line 50' behind the boat.

I hope this helps -Josh.

Thanks for the report Josh, looks like you have the right combination. The last time we fished Sprague we spliced two colors of leaded line to the mono, with the trailing mono, or leader about 30' long, the terminal lure was a small Rapala. The results were good, but your setup produced more fish in a shorter period of time. Isn't it amazing how hard those Rainbows hit, and the fight they put up.

This is the best time to fish Sprague, while the water is still cool. Jipper do you know if overnight camping is permitted near the WDFW boat launch?

kenbarb: I'm pretty sure there is a sign there saying no overnight camping allowed or day use only.

Hi Ken - No overnight at the WDFW area but there are some nice campsites at Sprague Lake Resort. They also have a pretty good launch with a dock. Give Monica a call there to find out what is available. Alan

Thanks for the camping information, looks like Sprague Lake Resort is the place to camp. I got on their website, they charge $40.00 per night for camping, this includes the boat launch. Little bit on the spendy side, but the lakeside campsites look excellent. We stayed at Four Seasons Resort the last time we were there, they are very close to the railroad, and the constant rumbling of the trains make it difficult to sleep, plus it's a long dusty ride getting there.
