This morning I had the luxury of waking up at 4:45Am to personal train some clients. The best part is I had a 4 hour gap before my next client so I headed over to Sammamish to see if I could get into some cutts. I had not luck what so ever because I have no Idea what I'm doing out there. My first time fishing it. I did happen to see lots and lots of Kokanee surfacing. In my attempts to hook a cutt, I caught and released about 13 Kokanee. These little guys are putting on some weight for it only being Feburary. I would guess they were about 12-14 inches. Much bigger than the Lake Washington Kokes. I couldn't keep them off my line so I ended up dropping down to 40 -50 feet with no luck. All in all a beautiful morning on the water and the Kokes kept me entertained, that's a W in my books.

Spinners trolled slowly on this lake simply kill the kokanee and should not be used. To keep the kokes off, ramp up the speed to around 2.0mph and drag a flatfish, apex or spoon around 10' to 20' down. Also, lay off the shrimp and krill scents and use something like pikeminnow if you do decide to use bait. There aren't many baitfish in Sammamish so the cutts are a bit starved and aggressive. Once you get the pattern down, limiting is not that difficult.

Crazy thing is, I was trolling at 2.0 with no bait. They were absolutely aggressive this morning. Thanks for the tips, I guess I'll give it a try next time.

Dj Wouldn't you know.....some folks can't catch a kokanee on purpose and you can't keep them off. Go figure

Where would you guys recommend launching a pontoon boat? I've got an 8' Outcast that I'm pretty good in but I can't quite cover the water like a motor can :\ I don't mind releasing kokes and keeping the odd trout. All of my stomping grounds are seasonal so I'm totally confused this time of year.
