Went out looking for a morning bite in the drizzling cold. Too much rain made it so I didnt want to launch the boat so I just stopped over at the little pond there in Clear Lake. A little drizzle turned into a raging downpour right as I got out of the car. I fished for about 45mins with no success hoping I was going to get the fishermans karma reward for sticking it out in such poor conditions. I then packed all my gear up to the car and went back down for the last 10mins with just single pole in hand. Two casts later I'm slow working my double bladed red n white spinnerbait and WHAMMMM fish on right in front of me, not 5ft from the bank. She rolled right away and I could see she was one of my biggest hooked. I worked her a little bit then couldnt stand the scare anymore and had to get my hand on her mouth. I dont have the best scale but it read out at 7lbs even which is my best landed fish. She was a hair over 23" long. Definately made it worth the 45mins in the downpour and my soaked clothes and cold hands. Sorry the pics came out so bad, it was hard to get any good ones due to the rain.

Wouldve been less than 3 rating had it not been a hog but cant say i didnt have fun anyways.

Best of luck, Cant wait for the next one.

Yes, nice report. I liked it because I have fished that little lake a few times from a canoe several years ago. Caught some nice bass too but nothing close to that one. Congrats!

How did you catch it on a spinnerbait? It just seems to me like they seem out of place in wa since we don't have any shad. I am interested in using them but am not sure that they will work.

I agree that it's a little out of place but my only guess is the bass must think it's a group of other fish, small trout, bluegill, perch etc...either that or it's just purely a reaction bite from pissing them off... I'd be pissed off with those noisy things in my face! I'm not an expert by any means but I do catch a lot of bass on an assortment of spinnerbaits here in WA, although there are far more effective lures (senkos, frogs and crankbaits) that I use more often... Hope that somewhat answers your question.

So question, I have driven by that lake for years, but I have never fished it. Where do you put a canoe in on that thing without a boat launch? Is there a trail somewhere, or do you have a connection through some private property?
