Made our first trip ever to Chelan for kokanee fishing and other than the weather it didn't disappoint. Everyone here is great providing good information to help out on on our first time at Chelan. Fished Mitchell Creek area April 6th and 7th till 1:00 each day. Weather was miserable Monday morning raining and wind blowing pretty good landed a kokanee right off the bat 8:00an in the morning and about 20 minutes rod went off hit so hard pulled out of the downrigger clip. A few minutes later wife lands a dandy Chinook! Great way to start off the day. Ended up catching a dozen kokanee all but one in the 15-16" range and really thick. Bite slowed after noon so called it a day. Back out the next morning windy again and spitting rain on and off but much nicer than Monday. Another consistent day of fishing ended up with a dozen Kokes by noon and again all nice healthy 14-16" fish. Great first impression wish we could have stayed and extra couple days when the weather turned nice and seen if we could of improved catch rate. Most fished caught on the downrigger ball between 95-105' but had some luck on the upper stacked rods at 75-85'. Macks Double D dodgers out produced sling blades. Orange hoochies with smile blade and a pink/purple hoochie with pink smile blade out fished other colors but we did catch on pink hoochies as well. Made own scent mixture for corn with Pautzke products and added anise scent and dipped in super dipping sauce kokanee/sockeye scent. Will definitely be back to try again sometime a beautiful lake to fish for the fattest Koke's I've seen!
