Drove over from Spokane on Thursday to see the M's game Friday night & do a little fishing in between. Arrived at Waughop at 6 am just as the gates were being unlocked. I started flipping jigs & plastics & within 10 min had a nice largemouth on but I didn't get a good hook set because it was so thick where I was. So after getting a good look at her she shook the jig. I was pretty dissapointed cause she looked like a solid 5 lber. So I just started walking the loop hitting all the holes cut in the brush. Caught and released 4 Largemouth, all smaller ones. After almost completing the loop I hooked into a monster Largemouth that was under a overhanging tree. It only took a few seconds until she got me hung up in some branches. After watching her wallow around on the surface pinned to the branch I decided all I could do was go swimming for her or give her some slack & hope she swam back out of the limbs... I chose the 2nd option -Wrong move- she left my hook & 8" Zoom lizard stuck to the branch just above the waterline. So after that I was really, really pissed off & decided to call it quits for the morning. But all in all Waughop seems to be a great little pond with some surprising trophy Bass potential if it doesn't get over harvested & is managed properly. I almost didn't post this report cause I'm a little embarrassed I did so poorly (due to angler error)when everyone & their brothers are pulling out 5 pounders left & right, but here it is. I know there's nothing worse than a guy telling you he "almost" caught a big one but that's how it went this time around. That last Bass I honestly estimate over 7 pounds, which would've been cool cause my personal best is an 8 lber & I've caught many 6 lbers but have yet to stick me a 7 lber. **But the Mariner's game was awesome- King Felix threw a complete game shutout & Cruz & Lomo both went deep so it was a good trip overall. I highly reccomend hip waders to anyone who has them, it would've made a world of difference for me in both fish landed & sooo many more spots you could cast to being a few feet away from shore

Nice report! Hate losing a big one but hate it even more when i get skunked and lose a big one so I guess it was still worth it for ya with the 4 released.
Anyone know if there is boat access to this lake? Most of the reports coming from here are from the banks.

There Is no launch but you could drag in a small boat and just put in. It's tiny, only 30 acres. It would be fun to have a little boat on there as the shore is really brushy and a lot of it is not fishable. But there's lots of lay downs and stumps to pitch and flip to. If I lived close I would fish the hell out of it.

Another good option is a tube. I've seen lots of guys doing that on that lake. It's probably the easiest way to access fish from the water side.

By the way I hope people are C&R-ing the bass there. Not only does it improve the fishery, but the fish will make you sick when the toxic algae bloom starts. Cooking does NOT get rid of the toxin in the fish.
