What a hidden gem of a lake. If I lived anywhere near this lake I would definitely be spending some hours on the water chasing largemouth.
At the Wapato store there were plenty of pictures of nice hauls both trout and largemouth with one in particular of a boy with a 9lb 10oz largie. Others fishing from shore had plenty of stringers full of nice sized trout freshly stocked in the lake. Talking to a gentlemen fishing for trout from shore right by the launch, he said there are times that really big (putting his hands out in measurement) largemouth would follow the trout in going after them as anglers would reel them up.
Once on the water we saw many big beasts cruising the shallows. One in the 6lb. range I managed to piss off enough with the swimbait for her to charge and nip at the back end. Not enough to get a hook set though. I had many strikes on a large green pumkin brush hog t-rigged, but could only boat one. The other smaller one came on a trout colored crankbait.
I had a lot of fun being out with the boy and fishing a new lake to me. I can almost guarantee there is a double digit bass or two in these waters. If I only had more time to do some damage. We launched at 8am and we where off by 11am. I had to do daddy duties with tangles and bait switching for the boy so my lure in the water to time ratio was real low. Still a great time and I hope to get another chance to fish this lake.
