Decided to try my luck on the big lake for cuts. I live less than 7 miles from the lake, but had never pulled a line. So at 0600, hooked up the big boat and headed down to the storage lot to grab a couple poles and the fw tackle bag.

As I checked out the boat, I found I had really low batteries and couldn't turn over the motors. The shop had left my batteries switched on. So, I pulled out the charger and let it work. I spent 45 minutes charging and used the time to get everything else squared away and ready to go. At the launch at 0730, was able to fire off both motors, so went ahead and splashed the boat.

Headed to the South end of MI and headed up the 90' line. Started marking fish right away. Started with a dodger/hootchie combo (orange), then switched over to switch to a Brad's Mini Cut Plug (perch) working between the 20' & 30' on the wire. Made it up to the S end of Seward Park with nothing. Switched over to an Aces Hi (green) and started working a zig zag across the narrows.

Around 10:30, I watched the rod just get pasted. Hit like a freight train & no doubt about it being a nice fish. Out of the clip and the hooked up! Fish was out of the water a couple of times. After a exciting fight, I had a nice thick fish in the net. Roughly 20" and probably 2-3 lbs. Unfortunately too fired up to remember to snap a picture before I safely released the fish.

Around 11:30 the lake was starting to get crazy with activity. So ended the fishing day. Picked up the wife and heading into Lk. Union for some lunch. Everyone with a new boat was on the water. Scary!

Even though things started out bad, was still able to salvage a good outing on a very close fishery, I'm hooked! Will definitely be out there on a regular basis for that when the Salmon season isn't open. Like the fact that the fish seem to be much bigger on Wash than Samsh. Maybe a little tougher to find, but worth the wait. Appreciate all the previous reports and PM's from a couple of NWFR folks to help me out. BTW....will also be making a battery charge the night before a part of my routine!

Oh my what a great story ! true to life for sure , the thrill and rise in your bp rate as your wacthing your line straiten out with a sliver bullet heading sky ward at the end of your line, feeling every shake and twist it makes . Ooooooo ! Ya . The other not so funny part with the battery's
takes me back to remember doing it myself a few times , the idea about the night before check and so on relates to a learn or lose thing that in time will be the first thing that comes to mind as you plan to fish the next day . When your a new student pilot learning to fly your pounded every time you go up check list check list soon it all becomes memory , all the everything's to go out on the pond kinda the same thing .
Catching the cutts out on the lake has got to be one of the funnest ways to fish I think , using the ultra light grear is even more fun when ya got a for sure hook up , I love to set the drag just enough so the fish cant win and ya can't really wind him up either and turn into a big circle
driving him straight into the net at the boat . Hey really cool report Byte Me Fish On .

Yeah you are so right about Sammamish cuts compared to Lk WA cuts. Lk WA bigger but seem to be harder to find at least for me. Get lucky once in a while but the norm seems to be a couple pretty nice fish.

In general, fishing for cutts before 10:00am on Lake Washington is simply a boat ride. During the late spring and summer, the bite really seems to come on around 11:00 am through 1:00 pm and then again from 6:00 pm until sundown.
