Wow! What a weekend trip.
Left Seattle Friday night with another WALAKES member. Headed over to Omak lake to fish for Lahontan cutts.
Let's just say a lot of weird stuff happened. I haven't had a ticket in about 32 years, only 1 ever.
Not this weekend though... Picked up a speeding ticket just S. of Omak. $150.00.

Get to the lake, it is WINDY AS ALL GET OUT! 14' Aluminum, deep V hull, Lund. I was like, "Oh man..."
In the first 5 min. on the lake, it is all craziness on the boat, white caps, swells, etc.
I send a fish hook through my thumb. It goes all the way in, past the barb, to about the bend in the hook.
I was so freaked out with all the pandemonium around me, that I asked my partner to snip the shank of the hook, and I would just leave it in, and go to an ER later.
He winds up doing that little maneuver that we have all heard about... does something with the pliers and pushing the barb in a different direction, and then YANKS it out! Hurt like hell for just a moment. But surprisingly not bad 24 hours later.

Sorry, on to the fishing.
Fishing sucked! 4 hours in the washing machine, and he released one Lahontan. No other take downs, etc. We fished spoons, Needlefish, etc. Kwikfish, streamers behind flashers, all kinds of stuff.
As Spring approaches the fish will come into the shallows to spawn, and we covered the shallows pretty well, but not much happening. Noted water temp between 39-41 degrees.
Fished a really nice shallow and mellow bay on the East side of the lake.
When we got back to shore the two shore anglers had released about 6-7 fish they said.

Also, had an amazingly wacky experience where in all the craziness, I had cold hands. I pulled my rod, under pressure out from the rod holder/DR. Rod flies out of my hands and overboard! DANG!!
It's a Lamiglas rod and this beautiful Shimano Tekata? reel that I bought from "Sickbayer" on this website.

I watch the whole thing sink below the boat in a weird slow motion.
On the other side of the boat my partner is bringing in his line, and he is all tangled up has a mess on his hands. Suddenly he tells me that he sees my rod coming up from the darkness below. Then somehow it is stuck 10' below the boat on his side. I go back to my side and I find some more of my line. I start pulling the line in.... Turns out the rod is still stuck in the downrigger clip.. I am able to slowly bring it all the way to the top, and get back my whole rig!!

Wish I could say more about the fishing, but it wasn't that great. It was more a weekend of weird things happening.

Sounds like a bad day on the water. Omak can be tough in the wind. We rolled into town on Friday and decided to fish McGinnis Lake due to the wind. Landed a few big brook trout. Hit Omak on Saturday but the wind was still whipping.

My buddy and I were fishing out of kayaks but only saw one boat on the water that day. We worked the beach at the south end, the rock walls on the east side about 1/4 mile up and crossed over to the west side. We landed a lot of fish. Many were in 10 to 12 feet of water pulling lead core line with Apex Tui Chubs & Brad's Cut Plugs (pink spotted color). I posted a report that will be on Salmon University today. Best of luck next time. It's such a great lake!
