Had a great opportunity to bring a good friend and his 6 year old son out fishing sundaySunday. My buddy's son had only been fishing once before, and my buddy's experience was limited as well. So iI took it as a personal challenge to give them both a great morning filled with fish.
We launched the boat around 6am and stayed to the south of the launch getting hooked up fairly quickly..we had two poles dragging wedding rings tipped with worm about 20-25 pulls out, also dragging a wooley bugger tipped with worm on the fly rod. All 3 set ups had success, especially the fly rod. The kid started off strong landing the first 3 fish worth keeping all around 12-13". Then it was time for dad to step it up!! I was able to do some quick coaching on setting the hook on a fly rod to my buddy, and before he knew it, he was rippin lips with the tip high in the air. He nicely striped his line in with a nice 13" bow on the end!!
The whole morning was filled with fun and tight lines! we kept 7 nice fish, released a few and lost plenty, but unfortunately it wasn't all fun for long....
got back to launch around 1045 and went to go get the truck, finding my passenger door open, with the window smashed in..its amazing how the scum of the earth can put their mark on an amazing day with first time fishers. We figure the break-in happened around 7am, and nothing of value was taken...just a big pain in the ass, and a couple chilly rides to work.
This easily wwould've been a 5 star day, had the break-in not happened. Just remember to not leave anything of value in your vehicle while fishing, just a shame you can't go fishing and not worry about this crap.
We won't be discouraged! Already planning on getting back out this weekend, good luck everyone!
