They Tobey clan came out for their annual foray for Lakers on Chelan. We trolled across the Bar and told stories. As we dropped into the Barrens we told more stories. I was sweating, but I thought the fish would be holding and biting in the Potholes. As we dropped into water between 210 and 226 feet deep we got bit. Not one, not 3, 6 fish pulled free in a matter of 20 minutes. Checked hooks, burned in the lines, turned the boat and worked back through the area. A single bit and made it to the net. Then a double. Then another double. Then it got too busy with netting and coaching to keep track. We ended with a nice pile of red meated Lower Basin Lakers. It was another great 3 generation trip!

We used Jeff Drift rigs baited with Pikeminnow within 5 feet of the bottom in 210 to 226 feet of water at 1.2 mph for the best success. Got off the water just as the launch got mobbed with pleasure boaters heading out to enjoy the incredible holiday.

As we enjoy this Memorial day holiday take a moment to reflect upon my friends Terry Gilden who was killed in the 1983 Beirut Embassy bombing as a member of Delta as well as Medal of Honor recipient Randy Shughart killed in Mogadishu, defending crash site 2 memorialized in the movie, Black Hawk Down. I appreciate that what they did, allows me to do what I want.
