Got out on the water at 6:40am and headed left to go under and pass the bridge. didn't even make 2 minutes into the paddling and had a fish on each line. Got a call from the wife to go up and help her with her two fish that she caught just up the lake. On my way to help her I caught more! We caught our limit in two hours but continued to catch and release for another hour or so. Average size was 13". We used joes flies short striker premium elite lures. They look like wasps/bee's. We also drenched them with garlic oil. Which made a noticeable difference from last weekend. We both limited out last week but it just took double the time. On the second rod we used a bobber, long shanked hook and a night crawler four feet from the surface which worked amazingly well.

Hey Devon, nice catch! But be aware: WDFW regs say that if you are using bait you must stop fishing after you catch 5 trout whether you keep them or not. Not worth the hefty fine if you get caught.

Flyfisherguy thanks for watching out! I'm aware of that particular rule. After we catch our limit we only use our spinner. Bait is put up!

Where are the current reports????? Since I fish St, Clair and read older reports to see what works, when..... better answer this too, even dated as is. Since the early '60's WA State Rules tell us to STOP fishing after legal limit is reached, as Flyfisherguy said-----------"
Bait Rules

It is unlawful to chum, broadcast, feed, or distribute into freshwater any bait or other substance capable of attracting fish unless specifically authorized in Special Rules.

Where use of bait is prohibited, or where lures or flies are used voluntarily, ___ game fish may be caught and released until the daily limit is retained.

Found here, scroll down=== https://www.eregulations.com/washington/fishing/statewide-freshwater-regulationshttps://www.eregulations.com/washington/fishing/statewide-freshwater-regulations Doing so, especially with a barbed hook- would probably injure the catch or handicap it with a hole in the cheek from the hook removal. This would effect not closing the mouth/throat cavity to swallow food or possibly slow it down when swimming fast away from a larger predator trout. Also, if you touch a fish with dry hands, you remove the protective layer of slime on scales that protects it against disease. I hope everyone reads and follows all Rules, keeping enough fish in the lakes and annual license cost down.
