Took a week off from work and went to Lake Sylvia State Park in
Montenso. It is a small lake which had within the last month been planted
with 2000 fish of which 500 were brood stock of silvers, steelhead, and
rainbows. At least that is what the ranger said. The first 3 days it
rained no bites. I trolled wedding rings, and spinners. I tried bobbers and
a worm and powerbait. No bites. I talked to a local who fishes the area and
he said I should try dragging a dry fly on the surface. Talk about a change.
The fish went crazy for it. Got lots of bites and lots of 10 to 12 inch
rainbows. One guy got what looked like 5 pound silver. He used purple
nymph flavored power bait. As the weather improved so did the bite. One
the last day I caught two more on just marshmallows floated off the bottom.
There is lots more to tell but had a good time fishing.
