K's cut finger had healed enough that we all decided to fish today. Got a late start, but nothing lost as it was a super day. It was fairly windy most of the day, despite 65-70 degrees it felt quite a bit cooler and water temps had risen to 68.7. We launched at 12:30 and immediately got into fish.
Fishing was so consistent it was hard to decide to stop for lunch, but one of the park lakeside picnic spots we like was open so we beached the boat and took supplies ashore to sit at a picnic table for sandwiches.
We all lost fish (maybe a total of twenty and mostly wily trout). K. was the first to loose a very nice trout, then P, then I had one tangle on K's line and jump into the side of the boat and escape. And let's talk about THE big one that got away.......... I had just put on a rattle trap, cast it a mile into sunny, shallow shoreline water and a huge fish hit. I yelled as I watched a 24" jump three times and was gone. I couldn't believe how big it looked at so far away!
But the ones that didn't get away really added up. K. boated 9. I boated 27 and P. boated 27! We each had a few pumpkinseeds, a few trout, baby large mouths and many, many keeper/eater size, lots in the slot limit. P. gets the bragging rights today with a great 18" incher. That was a treat and our cheers could probably be heard around the lake. He-da-man! Congrats. A fish fry was mighty tempting, but all 63 went back to grow bigger.
