Got a new fishing kayak recently so I took it to Horseshoe lake for the maiden voyage. Got on the water at about 8am and left at 12pm. There was one other boat on the water when I got there trolling for trout. They didn't stay long so it was either really good or really bad for them. It was cloudy with random rays of sunshine. I tried pitching jigs to docks with no luck. There were a lot of bluegill in beds in the far backs of the lake so I switched to a livetarget bluegill crankbait, but kept pulling up weeds so I scrapped that plan. I wacky rigged a 5'' watermelon seed senko at the end and caught 2 small ones and the edge of the lily pads. I probably could've hooked up with a few more, but had to leave. As I said I saw a lot of bluegill shallow and only 1 bass of size shallow roaming. The bass were probably deeper but I didn't have a depth finder so I didn't really know what to target and stayed somewhat shallow. At one point I had at least 25 3-4'' baby bass following my yellow kayak. I guess they liked the bright color. Regardless of the slow fish catching it felt great to be out on the water in my new kayak. Plan to go out again soon.
