Headed up to Lake Scanewa to chase a springer or two. Went up Saturday afternoon with the wind blowing pretty good, so I did not get the pontoon out, but did talk to a guide that had caught 5 the day before, so I had some hope for Sunday.
Hit the lake about 5:30, on the water about 6 once I got my gear rigged and the pontoon all set up. This was only my second time out with the pontoon boat with the electric trolling motor, first did not go so we as I did not have the pontoons inflated enough to deal with the extra weight. Much better operation this time, the battery and back end was up out of the water and the boat moved right along.
I followed all the boats down to the channel that goes to the dam. I started trolling a hootchie, most people were trolling herring, but I forgot my package in the freezer! There were fish surfacing and thrashing around a bit so I switched to a jig to throw at some closer to the shore, with still no luck. I did have one follow the jig up to surface about three feet from me, looked me right in the eye and just laughed!
I then put on a Brads cut plug loaded with some Gulp herring strips, pulled that around for a while with nothing to show before calling it a day.
There was only one fish caught by the guide boat, nothing for the other 8-10 boats by the time I left about 11.
Even with no fish it was good to get the pontoon and trolling dialed in better, should be ready to go for Baker lake, last year was tough rowing in the wind.
Looking at the repots this morning looks like I missed the fish dump by a day, that seems top be the day to be there based upon the guides catch and Lake Trolls report.
