Got off work and had a picnic on the lake. Too much longer than expected. Launched at 5PM. We boat near the north end of the lake.
Not many boats out on the water. Very breezy. Partly cloudy.
Started with swimbait. Had a perch jump out of the water at boat side to try and snatch my lure.
Switch to the trusty DS.
Didn't take long with the DS. Maybe 10-15 mins before I got a solid bite. Was really shallow. Made multiple casts all around. It wasn't until I casted it really tight to the cover, then saw my line swimming away. Set the hook and knew it was a decent one but oh no, it has me curved around a piling. I just maintain steady pressure and the fish came around. It immediately jumps and catches air. Looked much bigger jumping and splashing. Still nice bass. 2.83 #. Good start.
Continued along pitching the DS. Found another tight spot and fish on. The wife was getting really jelly. "what, again??!!"
Only 2.17#
Decide to cross over to the other side. Caught 3 small ones ~12 inchers.
This side of the lake didn't have same pattern. I kept tossing different lures around thinking the bigger fish was close by.
Found another decent SMB in a little bit deeper water on DS. About a 16"er.
I pitch my DS out and feel a little tension. Then see my line swimming away. Set the hook and after a 2 second bulldog dog, line pops. I knew I should have re-tied. Broke above the hook. It felt a little rough after the last fish. Bummer, felt like a good one.
Had to call it after that. Boated 6 SMB in under 2 hours. 3 were decent. Wish I landed that forth one. As we were driving home. Most of the clouds moved and was very sunny on lake.
