Went out on our inflatable boat. Husband rowed for me. The little one fell asleep almost the instant we got in the boat. We made for the cliffs on the far side of the lake from the boat launch. It is the known Kokanee mecca according to all the locals. I had one more fish to catch. I have already caught 4 rainbows earlier and was looking to limit with a nice Kokanee. One of the small rainbows I caught had its from fins missing when I pulled it up. just little stubs. did it happen after he got hooked? It was on the smaller size so could be that some bigger predator thought it looked like lunch. Since I was worried if could be diseased I did not eat it but offered it as a gift to the otter. Still counting it as part of my limit. I was pretty cool to see the otter come and grab the fish.
To fish for Kokanee I used a 50/50 dodger and a pink Kokanee style wedding ring. We rowed towards the cliffs had some hits on the way there and even a hook up of a rainbow but shook him off. I was really enjoying not using bait. Near the cliffs still a good distance from them. my poll jiggled and I saw a silvery fish jump. I had a fun them bringing it in on my 4 lb test line ultra light poll. I brought it up and found it to be a 13 inch Kokanee. Content. I drew up my fishing gear and we rowed back.
