What a morning. After not getting the chance to head out yesterday, I decided to stay close to home and hit the big lake. I had some redemption after getting schooled in the derby. Fishing with the same setup as my previous Lake Wa trips (Orange wiggle Hoochie and sling blade) tipped with corn, I was onto a fish in the first 5 minutes. Hit pretty hard and peeled some line but decided to shake its self free just on the side of my toon. Lines back out, wire down to 25 ft circling back to where that fish was caught and BAM!!!!! I knew this fish had some weight so I played it easy and let it tire itself out. This. Proved to be much more successful as the fish came belly up to the surface. At first I couldn't tell if it was a cutt then I noticed it was a rainbow so I grabbed the tape measure and marked it right at 19 inches with some change. Bonked EM and threw it in the cooler. Fished for another hour and a half releasing 5 total sockeye in the 16-18 inch range. A few smaller but I didnt want to take the risk. Hooked into a nice 16 inch cutt right before packing it up and then called it a day. The sockeye seem to be all over the lake. I consistantly marked them really high in the water column. Most consistantly down at 15ft. Pretty fun day of fish with a bonus fish for the fathers day bbq tonight!

Nice report. I hit Lake WA on Thursday. Trolled south end of Mercer to Paul Allens place and back to the Cedar. Somehow hooked 4 perch while trolling, and 2 undersize trout for my efforts. Lots of bait on the sonar though. Will be back out there Monday giving it another go.

Those are both cutthroat. You can tell by the mouth. Rainbows jaw does not go past the fishes eye. I can't even remember the last time I seen a rainbow caught out of that lake. Including juvenile steelhead.

Those fish look like rainbow to me, no orange slash on the jaw! Best way to tell is whether there are teeth on the tongue, teeth indicating a cutthroat, according to WDFW.

The mouth extends past the eye- cutthroat. :-)
Those are indeed resident cutthroat. They do not go out to the sea.

Reelinanrockin- to add in, the tongue did have teeth and the smaller fish did have orange under the jaw which you can't see. So Both are cutts then as you mentioned earlier!

Hey D j Your getting real good on the big lake gee if I don't get back on the water soon I'm gonna have to take a lesson or two from You just to be able to catch a fish again . That sling blade & hoochie combo has quite the catch record, I've tried a lot of different combos some better than others but your's must be magical every time it brings home the fish maybe it the operator I'm thinkin and the experience too may account for all that . Yes the movie crew will be there one day looking for You to be the star in the show . Who puts reports on the site , look at the comment's.
