I headed out to Lavender after a meager showing at Rattlesnake earlier in the week and still wanting to catch trout in a lake despite the heat. I pulled up at noon and cast a line in and sat in on my tailgate for about 2 minutes before I hooked a fish. I had my pontoon with me and so I dumped it in and rowed out to the middle where fish were rising. Sat there pretty much all afternoon and landed fish consistently merely bottom fishing with powerbait. I had my fly rod with me and tried stripping in woolly buggers for a while but there were no takers. Most of the fish were cookie cutter stocker fish but four were bigger, maybe two pound fish. The lake was stocked with 500 fish earlier in June that averaged .82 fish per pound. The big ones fought well and I saw two roaming around in really shallow water by the bank. The bite didn't seem to be affected by the temperature which was a nice surprise.
