Took my pontoon boat out on the mysterious Rock Lake! There is not a maintained boat ramp, meaning it's a good thing a buddy brought his four-wheel-drive pickup because my van would never have been able to launch the boat. A little elbow grease helped get my wheelchair onto the boat, and an hour after arriving we hit the water (9 AM)!

We trolled divers and downriggers to 70 feet, and I lost my first downrigger ball on one of the infamous shelves. Went from 90 feet to 20 feet immediately… The cost of fishing a strange lake.

Rainbow flatfish, trolling spoons, and even super baits were presented… We could barely keep the freshly planted steelhead off of our stuff. When a 10 inch fish bites a 4.5 inch lure, you know the population is too great! We did end up with a single 18 inch brown, probably weighed a couple of pounds. It's going to taste great!

Had one bite on the T 19 (gigantic flatfish, like 8 inches), but it was mostly a hit and run. Probably one of those 30 inchers closed mouth right at the end after realizing it was not a life fish it was striking. Next time!

We used to fish Rock a bunch. Then the WDFW began planting bowes at 3 to a pound just when the fall fishing was turning on. Couldn't keep the little buggers off! Switched to Lake Roosevelt and never looked back. Oh yes they have paved launches and docks too; a real plus!!
