Gave Potholes a shot for the first time in a couple months and did pretty good. We started at the Mar Don dock for Crappie at about 04:30 and fished there for an hour, not a single bite. There were 6 other guy on the dock and only 1 fish caught, not sure where the Crappie went to, normally the dock is good.
We launched the boat at the state park and went to the crab creek area. We kept 7 walleye, a couple perch and a nice 3.5 lb. trout. The fishing was pretty steady with a lot of smalleyes and a lot of bullhead catfish. My son enjoyed the catching the catfish, one of them was about 2.5 lbs., biggest bullhead I have seen. We trolled in about 9-25’ of water bottom bouncing and using planner boards. The hot color for us was orange and white, 90% of the fish were caught on these colors on homemade spinners. We left the water after about 3 hours of fishing, all in all, a fun day. My 8 year old had a great time.
