First I must apologize for entering this report in the "Fishing Reports." It really belongs in the Geezer Boating Reports but I was unable to find that report on the list. It was a nice day in the making so I decided to travel down to Wye Lake for some casting practice and hopefully even get a hook-up with a largemouth bass. To start with as soon as I hooked up the trailer I found that one of the lights was not working. Hours later, after replacing the tail light and finding that the replacement light wouldn't work either I found it had a burned out bulb. That was replaced. OK, the lights were working - I traveled down to Wye Lake. The water level was very low - The concrete ramp was hardly usable with a drop off at the end. I decided to launch from the gravel area to the left of the ramp. The water was very shallow and I had to back up to the point where my back wheels were just a bit into the water. After floating the boat off, I started to pull out and the back wheels spun and started to sink in. A brief moment of panic but I shifted into 4 wheel low. The front wheels that were also in gravel started to spin too - but only briefly. I rarely ever use the Four Wheel Drive but when you need it - usually you really need it. Anyway - boat in the water I started down the lake. Four rods were pre-rigged - one with a jig, one with a Rapala, one with a crankbait and the last one with a spinnerbait. I fished most of the lake without a single hit. The most exciting moment was when a little bass about an inch and a half long followed my size 11 Rapala back to the boat. The Rapala was 4 3/8 inches long - Don't know what the little fellow was thinking. Anyway after getting totally skunked for the first time since I was a mere lad of 85, I decided to quit. I got the boat back on the trailer and checked my trailer lights - absolutely nothing - no lights what so ever. With no possible way to do any repair I decided to risk the red and blue lights and head home. I made it. So there you have it, a "Geezer Boating Report." Another day on the water in the great Northwest.
