Made the bumpy washboard drive up to lost lake. It was still dark as we turned onto the NFS road to the lake and right in the field next to us were about a dozen elk. They bolted when the lights hit them. Too dark to tell or see if they were all cows or not. Pretty cool start to the day though. Once at the lake we were at the main campground area for about 4hours. First fish in was about a 9-10 inch Brookie. I think. It was very light in color with the pink polka dots and orange on most of the fins. WDFW says the lake holds EBT and rainbow and maybe cuts. We were not sure since it looked so much like a pic we just saw of a Dolly/Bull. So we turned it loose.
My buddy then hooked 2 large rainbow but lost them at the shoreline. Can't believe how steep it is. He then caught about a 5 inch rainbow that was turned loose to grow. After talking to another gent we packed up and headed to the other side of the lake. You wil for sure need 4x4 to take this road. And very hi clearance to go all the way down. Soon I had a very large rainbow hooked with my black and silver rooster tail. Bad hook set and he was off about 10 ft from me. Decided to get lazy for a bit and switched to worm under bobber. After watching it blowdown the lake I was ready to bring it in and start over when bobber down. This one made it to the beach. 16-17 inches and well over a pound maybe close to two. A short time later another hookup and another large rainbow hooked. Unbuttoned again. Had one more bobber down but it was never hooked. All in all it was a great day. Really nice lake and for those who don't want to hike to a mt. Lake we even saw a Prius headed up there. The wind was the only bad part 0630 to 1430 it was always blowing and sometimes gusting. Sun was in and out of the clouds but not a cold day probably around 45 in the am and about 60 when we left. Have a great weekend.
