Made my annual fall pilgrimage to Silver Lake to kayak fish for crappie and other panfish that concentrate in fantastical numbers each fall in the canals around the lake. I was not disappointed as I caught well over 500 fish on both bobber and jig and on a tenkara style fly rod.

As has been my experience in past years crappie and other panfish can be found throughout the canals but certain sections are particularly thick with fish (see hotspots!). Small chartreuse jigs and flies twitched in 3' of water were most productive with multiple fish per minute.

This lake is a great place for the new kayak angler angler as the water is shallow and protected. Its also a wonderful kayak fishery to take kids or the non-angling friend or family member along as they will not have any problems catching fish. Additionally, the marshes around the canals are home to lots of wildlife and I always see a wide variety of wildlife including otters, eagles, bittern, herons, and a variety of waterfowl every trip I take to Silver Lake.
