Fished from the dock on the right at Hill Park. Arrived at 8 am, fished till 10 am. Fished for about 45 min using flies, black General Practitioner, then black Wooly Bugger...no luck. Next, I cast out a line with with my spinning rod with Power Bait at the end, and Pautzke's Balls o Fire salmon eggs on a 2nd hook about 6" up from the end hook. I have a second pole endorsement, so I also cast and retrieved a #0 Dick Nite while the bait on the other rod soaked.
I gave this outing a "3" because of bizarreness. When I first got to the dock, there was a yellow "Caution" tape in front of it....I thought it must be because the dock had been under water previously. When I walked out to the end of the dock, I saw that right in the middle of the "T" was a 6-8 foot diameter hole burned into the dock. Almost a perfect Hexagon six sided shape. Very weird. Plus some scraps of paper that had been mostly burned...but still a few words remained not charred yet...holy....heaven. As I was casting and retrieving the Fire Marshall showed up to inspect the fire damage. He said someone had started the fire the night before; people saw the bright light and called it in.
Because the dock is plastic, it burned pretty bright. The marshall thinks it was either kids or maybe a homeless person, and they had started a fire for warmth with wood, not knowing the plastic dock is pretty darn flammable!
Later on. the fire marshall concluded he was my good luck charm, because while we were chatting a 12" Rainbow took my salmon eggs and gave up a pretty nice fight!
The Rainbow Trout was unusual looking to me. It was very metallic looking when it first came out of the water, almost like a steelhead. And although rainbows often have a pink sheen to them, this trout was very purple. A good looker....and a good dinner, too!
