Picked up three rainbows all around 9 inches on the very northern part of American Lake by the apartments. Had a few jumpers after a weak hatch going on. Picked up all fish 10 feet down the wire. Surface temp was 48.9 degrees here. Didn't see but a few kokanee schools. Rowers were out in force and the first jet skiers blasting around. Most fish seem to be in the top section of the water column to 20 feet.

Thanks for the report, that end does hold some trout and seem to warm a bit quicker then the main lake it does have it's shallow points but deep areas as well. I have taken so very nice RB 20" in that area myself. Good luck!!

Thanks for the report. Any day now someone will post an American Lake kokanee pic and people will flock. We tried American Lake a few weeks ago and there was a bunch of lake scum on the water near the VA Hospital. Reports of a toxic algae bloom within the last year had us off the water pretty quick for fear of the dogs drinking the water and getting sick. Is that gunk on top still the case? Our fly lines were coated in the stuff. Did manage to C&R a few big holdovers on that trip but American lake might be off my kokanee/trout radar this year.

I have not heard or seen any lake scum or toxic algae bloom on the water minus the heavy tree pollen build up in May/June. Spanaway Lake gets the bloom a lot, but American Lake to my knowledge has never had a toxic algae bloom.

March 7-10 they added -12k RB to American...http://wdfw.wa.gov/fishing/plants/weekly/search.php?searchby=County&search=Pierce&orderby=LakeStocked%20ASC,%20StockDate%20DESC Caught one 13"RB on Wed. last, the two jet skiers parked (around 2pm) their truck/trailer ON one of the two launch ramps....lol. 20 min. before I loaded up and 30 min. while I tied down. High beam flashed a LW Police motorcycle four blocks from Murry -gave info- and hope they were still there when he showed up, lol.
Yes, there was scum sticking to my lines (2 pole lic.) since last month, and last time. Big globs floating like grenades in the water, lots of branches and even a few 3/4 submerged logs (3-4'), glad I was rowing.
