Met up with new member Paul Saturday morning on HIS dock on Cavanaugh. Was looking forward to a good day, Weather report said sunny and light breezes.
We started out from South shore point area heading east. Heavy Winds and thick clouds. But picked up our first Kokonee about 15 minutes in. Sun came out about 11:30 and we had 3. Took a break at 2:30 after changing our offerings every 30 minutes on each rod with no success.
He checked on his dog while I sat in the boat recharging the trolling battery and opened up my lunch my great wife packed. And found the Dreaded BANANA!! Now I am not saying it made a difference, but I ate it and thru the peel away and when we started out for the next two hours we each caught and released a lot of Cutthroat Trout. . Found them on Calm Water between the west tip of the island to the shore line. The magic combo was a Gold Wedding ring tipped with REAL worms. We got that tip from a passing boater (TY) I was using a gold Macks with smile blade and a Pale Yellow Swing blade and Paul was using a Great looking V blade Wedding ring, I have never seen one but going to find it soon and a silver dodger. It was great for constant action for trout and a very lost Kokonee every now and than. We were pulling one rod on top and one at 20" and it didn't matter. We were splitting catches on either.
A Lot of marks all over but No large schools yet until I got back to the ramp. As I got to the west end of the lake and waited for my turn I stared seeing LARGE schools 200 yards off shore. Checking the water temp and it was 49.
