Myself, Gringo Pescador, and Robbie got to join Luke Hatfield and his friend James on his boat to fish Merwin for some kokanee. Luke is one of our Facebook Fishing Group moderators and was gracious enough to invite us down for the weekend for some springer and kokanee fishing.
We started 6am. The conditions were beautiful, except for a bit of a breeze coming out of the north working down the lake. Not to worry, I figure this typical AM breeze would diminish as the sun came up and we'd have perfect conditions. Well, it didn't work out that way...
we ran seven rods, one on either side off planer boards, three with no weight. and a couple rods with 2-3oz of weight. Running a variety of kokanee gear, we awaited our first fish. I must say, it was pretty impressive getting those many rods coordinated and running without fouling up. Luke did a great job with spacing the lines.
The wind continued to get stronger, and by 9am we were running out the sea anchors to keep our trolling speed under 1.7mph. White caps and rollers on Merwin Reservoir!
We fished until noon but only managed to keep one 12" and loss one. Very disappointing catch-wise, but a pleasant morning no the less and for Gringo and Robbie their first time on Merwin was a memorable one. We decided to hit Yale and see if the action was any better over there...
