After spending the weekend killing springers, Lings, and black seabass we were back to Silver lake in search of those big crappie. As we were launching there were quite a few fishermen catching crappie from shore. This time we decided to try further afield and went directly to the island. At the island we fished the shade side and were immediately rewarded with keeper sized crappie. This time it was easy to locate feeding schools as they were dimpling the top of the water. There was a good mix of white and black crappie. Also caught bluegill and bass. Danny hooked a HUGE bass on his crappie gear. Doubled over ultralight gear and drag singing, he eventually lost it as it went air born. We only fished for an hour this evening but it was a busy hour of catching. The ones we kept were 10.5-11inches in length. Again fishing the shy bite bobbers and 1/32oz jigheads with small curly tailed worms about 18inches under the float. Brown curly tailed worms with black flake outfished all the other colors 10:1 Still hoping to find those 13 icnhers Ive heard people talk about.
