My boy and I hit the lake at 7am and started out by trolling with pop gear and spoons. When we got to the far end of the lake, I landed a small 9" rainbow. I didn't want to go home empty handed so I kept it. After some time trolling that area we switched out the pop gear and I ran just an orange and yellow Blue Fox Vibrax and my boy ran a yellow and green Rooster Tail. I immediately hooked a fish and land a 12" brown trout! A short time later my boy lands his first fish of the day, a 10" rainbow. We've been on the water for a couple hours so we head back to the dock to use the restroom and warm up a bit.
As we head out, I have my son try a Blue Fox Flash Series in red and yellow. We get a couple minutes down the lake and he says he wants to try casting from the boat, so I stop the motor and he casts. His second cast he hooks a good size fish and lands a 12" rainbow. I cast off the other side of the boat and immediately hook and land a 13" bow. We continue doing this for the next 20 minutes. These are good chunky fish too. His largest was 13" and mine was 16". We drifted for quite a while doing this and then the bite stopped, so I turn us around and head back to where it started and the action is on again. We both had four in the cooler so we each released several fish, hoping to make the final one a big one, but they never came.
This was a fantastic day! In addition to all the catching we enjoyed watching the bald eagles circling and catching as well. I don't know why I didn't take any pictures, but I did take a picture after they were cleaned and ready to cook. They were good tasting fish!
