My once or twice a trip to the old fishing hole.

Got on the water by 9AM. Putted away I go. Overcast, with a little bit of wind. Water temp right at 60. Almost perfect I would say. Hmmm, with the slight breeze, it's a bit chillier than I thought. Oh now, forgot the sunglasses, doh!

I started with a small swimbait and a weightless plastic. Also have a DS rigged up too. Wow, I'm not getting a single bite on anything. I then tie on a jerkbait too and work that around for a bit. Added a tube to the mix. I finally get a few taps on the tube, but they felt small and was very rapid. Thinking perch or small bass.

Continue moving forward, I felt a decent tap on my weightless and set the hook. Welp, doesn't feel big, but at least no skunk. It comes right up and see it's a dink LMB. If I was rounding up, I'll give myself 1#, but it's probably .75# at most, lol. The next cast, in the same area, I get another bite, but miss. Felt even smaller. A couple of casts later, I land me a even smaller dink LMB. Maybe 7" or so.

I can see some empty beds here and there. So far, out of all my lures, I've only gotten bites on the weightless and tube. DS wasn't even getting a nibble from anything.

I boat to the other side of the lake and work the bank. It's a shallow flat. I see a bed that's maybe 5' from shore. Work that area with all of my rigs and nothing. Gotta keep moving. Wind picked up a bit, so I couldn't do weightless anymore, so I added a weight.

I toss my lure inbetween 2 docks that look like how I caught the previous 2 LMB and felt the bite. Set the hook and whoa, this feels like a nice one or I'm wrapped up in some weeds. Maintain pressure and I pull the fish out and it still feels nice, woot. I'm expecting a LMB but to my surprise, it's a nice SMB. Not bad at all. 3.72#. Caught on same lure as the LMB, in similar type of cover and structure, except for the added weight. As I'm standing there fixing my lure, I spotted a big LMB right in front of me in about 6' of water, just roaming. I'm standing still and not moving. It swims right underneath my front deck. I make a few fan casts with the jerk and soft plastics, but nada. Had to have been in the 3-4# range.

I'm thinking ok, maybe this is the key. I hit a few areas that I know are similar with no bites. So I start working a dock. As I'm working my way down, a lady comes out tell me not to fish her dock. I know this happens to other people, but this is the first time it's happened to me. By the time she was telling me to go away, I was already done fishing bc I snagged on someone's old line, that's attached to their boat lift. Normally, I would pull out as much of the old line as possible to throw it away, but I unhooked myself and left the old breakoff in place. Then threw a swimbait around the area just because you never know what might be swimming around. So warning for you other Lake Meridian fishermen, there's old fishing line around the boat lift on dock #33. It's one of the 2 with the airplane.

Snacking while drifting, just enjoying the fresh air. I get up and 1st cast, tap. Set the hook and it's another decent SMB. About 17" and weighed 2.4X pounds. Worked a couple more shallow areas with no bites and called it good. Started rough, slow fishing overall, but it paid off IMO.
