Up at 6 this morning. That is late for me. After a good nights sleep and as I haven't gone fishing for a while, my adventure begins. After stopping at McD's for coffee and s/e burritos, I arrive at one of my "go to" places for this area, Bills Boathouse on American Lake. There's already 4-5 anglers at 7 a.m., but I see my favorite corner of the dock is available. Set up one pole with fluorescent red PE (Power Egg) with 4' leader on the bottom. I notice that most of the others are fishing with a bobber set at 15' depth with baits like worms, PE, and some fishing small salad shrimp. There were 2 fellows there who obviously knew what they were doing and were catching fish constantly. While watching my pole for activity I set about casting the many spoons, spinners and lures in the tackle box. The first setup wasn't producing so I changed to a 8' leader with crawler and egg. I got a total of 4 hookups and only managed to catch one on a large chrome/ blue spoon. That one was a hefty 1-1/2- 2 pound rainbow stretching 18", call it 17-1/2. I would have stayed longer but at noon the temps were already 70 and I was not going to risk a sunburn. Wonderful outing!
