What a fantastic way to end a weekend get away in Bellingham. Weather was perfect and fishing was even better. I gave my buddy Vanhine a call to see if I could convince him to bring his boat out to Samish. Didn't take much, he said yes with no hesitation. We got to the launch and had to do the AIS Inspection. Those guys are super nice and very informative. Finished up with that andFinally on the water around noon.
The first thing we notice were rising fish scattered all over the lake. We started our troll just outside of the boat launch to the right and headed north staying in 50-60 ft of water. Had wires down Between 20-25ft. We marked tons of Kokanee down there but they were not willing to munch on some shoepeg. After flipping through gear we finally gave them what they wanted, WEDDING RINGS!!!! Of course paired with Dick Nite Dodgers. Vanhine got the first fish to get the skunk out of the boat. After that I started hooking up on the flat line rod. We both missed bites and lost fish at the boat. We found a sweet Honey hole straight across from the boat launch and trolled up and down that area and consistently got a bite when we passed through it. We both got our limits. I Ended the day with 4 kokes and a very healthy Cutthroat. Vanhine landed 5 kokes for his limit. Fish were mostly caught on the surface or 5-10ft on the wire.
Absolutely beautiful up there in Whatcom County. We shared some good fishing stories, good laughs and great fellowship. just a great afternoon On the water. We Will definitely be going back now that we have the lake somewhat figured out. Enjoy, and tight lines!
