I started out today at Clear Lake, but the wind got the better of me, right off the bat, combined lack of any bites. Rather than just sit with no fish, getting blasted by cold wind, I packed up and headed to Lost Lake.
I'm really glad I did. Today's limit included three Native/ Carry Overs. The largest went just over 17 inches (weighing 1.74 pounds), and the next biggest was a little under a pound and a half. I fished the opposite bank, where the small creek flows in. Three out of the four fish revealed upon cleaning that they were spawning. The combination of the creek, and the lily pads which it flows into provides amazing cover and a perfect place to spawn. Needless to say, I was casting on the edge of the pads all day.
Pink and Yellow power eggs with a few feet of leader and a couple slip sinkers seemed to do the trick. There was a front coming through while I was fishing, and while it wasn't as cold as Clear Lake, it seemed to effect the bite to some degree. In order to hook the fish today, I had to really let them nibble at it far longer than normal.
Great day, some nice fish, and mountain air!!!
Tight Lines
Joe
