This report follows the previous day's report for Potholes. I spent the earlier part of this morning trying to repair the manual starter unit for my older 15 hp motor. Though I thought I was putting all the pieces back where they belonged, a spring repeatedly flew off every time I pulled the rope starter. To top it off, the wind forecast for the next day, which only 3 days earlier had been for single digits, was now predicted to be 25+. Tony convinced me to spend the day fishing on his boat with Linda and then we'd all cut the 4 day weekend short, heading home that night.

I took Tony up on his offer, figuring I could finally take the time to learn how to use my Ax Tackle Sidewinder planer board so as to not get in the way of their fishing. We put his boat in at Blue Heron Park and headed for the eastern shore in front of The Best Western. This stretch has been productive in the past and some other boats were already there. We trolled up that whole strip in about 15' of water without a bite, and didn't see anyone else with action either.

The highlight of the day was first getting a text from Walleye Be Damn, saying he was fishing the lake just north of us and then having him drive up! WBD has offered me great advice on here before and we've exchanged information in the past but this was the first time we'd actually had a chance to meet up. A nicer, more friendly guy you'd be hard pressed to find! His son, a regular fishing buddy, was with him and clearly enjoying their outing. Their boat was also one to be admired. WBD was having a much more successful day, as his report demonstrates, and he offered many very helpful suggestions as to locations, gear, etc. Where he had been fishing, seemed to be slowing down so he was thinking of fishing the shore just north of where were.

We decided it had to be better there and motored north. We then parted ways, WBD trolling west, and us headed east. Again we were unable to buy a bite. Maybe up north might be better, but before trying that we headed to the dock to get something from the car. Another boat was headed back out and they said they were having a great day, and had caught several walleye. They said they had been fishing just south of the bridge where I-90 crosses Moses Lake on the eastern side of the lake. Having never been here, we agreed to give it a shot.

We stayed over toward the eastern shore where a few other boats were, in about 6' - 8' of water. For the longest while we had no action, then I got my first ever fish using a planer board. I was using a heavier, multi jointed realistic perch-looking lure, with no bait and pulled in a nice 16" walleye. A couple of other boats seemed to start catching as well, and then Linda pulled in a nice 17" walleye. Finally! But as quick as it started, the bite quit. We stayed a bit longer with no action. It being about 4 pm and facing a long drive back, we called it a day.

Sorry to hear your experience was not so great. Maybe someday we can hook up and we can fish from my boat and see what kind of damage we can do. Thanks for the kind words, it was an honor to meet you too.

That sucks that you had such a tough time, bugs, equipment, no fish, etc... but you had something much better it sounds like; a true gentleman out there on the water willing to help!!! That's pretty 1st class!
