We recently moved to Coulee City from Spokane so we could be closer to the Walleye fishing and I have to say its great to be within a short drive of so many great lakes. Yesterday we launched at Steamboat and ran to the other side of the lake to one of my favorite spots. With the water so low it was like learning a new area. I always start out shallow, about 14ft and work my way out to around 25ft., none of that worked. We pulled slowdeath hooks and changed out smiley blade colors and sizes several times. I decided to try deeper water so we headed down lake. We stopped at an area that was 70ft and the chart showed contours that went from 70ft to 40ft so we thought what the heck, we will start deep and head into the shallower water my we can fish the right depth. We set the lines out and within 100ft my pole started dancing, even with a 3oz bottom walker I still had 235ft of line out while trolling at .80 mhp. After a really great battle I boated my first ever Burbot. That fish was 22 inches of pure ugly. I had heard the taste great so in the livewell he went. We continued working our way toward shallower water, we got to 47ft and both our rods went off at the same time. We put a couple 14 inchers in the boat. We stayed in that 45-55ft range and ended up with 6 wallys and an ugly fish in the boat within a hour. The wind was picking up pretty good and we had enough fish for a meal so we headed home. I sure hope that Burbot tastes better than he looks.
